How to Assign or Reassign 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Roles and Licenses
Whether you're setting up 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS for the first time, reassigning a license to a new user, or managing your team’s access as you grow, getting roles and licenses assigned properly is key to getting started without delay.
We’ve put together this quick guide to help our 3DChimera customers manage their 3DEXPERIENCE platform with confidence.
SCENARIO 1: First-Time Setup: Getting Your Team Started on 3DEXPERIENCE
If this is your first time using 3DEXPERIENCE, follow these basic steps:
Step 1: Accept the Platform Invitation
Once your company has been onboarded to 3DEXPERIENCE, the admin (typically the person who purchased the software) will receive an email from Dassault Systèmes inviting them to activate the platform.
Step 2: Log Into the Platform
Go to link in your welcome message and log in using your Dassault Systèmes ID. If you don’t have one, you can create it during the process.
Step 3: Add New Users
Inside the platform, navigate to Platform Management > Members.
Click Invite Member, enter the user’s email address, and select the appropriate roles (like Collaborative Business Innovator, 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Standard, etc.).
Step 4: Assign Roles (Licenses)
Once the user accepts the invitation and logs in, go back to Members, click the "i" button in user’s name.
Ensure they have the correct roles assigned. These roles define which apps and tools they can access.
SCENARIO 2: Reassigning a 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS License to a New User or Existing User
Maybe someone left the team or changed roles, or maybe you had a new license assigned to your organization. Here’s how to reassign that license:
Step 1: Remove the License from the Previous User
- Go to Platform Management > Members
- Click the previous user’s name
- Uncheck the role(s) you want to reassign
- Save changes
✅ Pro Tip: You don’t need to delete the user—just unassign the role so it's freed up.
Step 2: Assign the Role (license) to the New User
- Either invite a new member or select an existing one
- Assign the role(s) you freed up
- Save changes
The new user will now have access to 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS under your existing license.
SCENARIO 3: Assigning Additional Roles to a User
If your users need access to additional tools (like simulation, project collaboration, or cloud storage), you can assign more roles:
- Head to Platform Management > Members
- Click on the user’s name
- Use the checkbox list to add any additional roles you’ve purchased
- Save changes
