Chicago Additive Selects 3DChimera as First Reseller for AMOS Industrial 3D Printers
Chicago Additive has selected 3DChimera as the first reseller for its AMOS line of industrial 3D printers. The partnership brings a rugged, American-made additive manufacturing platform to a broader commercial market, backed by 3DChimera's application development, training, implementation, and ongoing technical support.
“We were immediately interested in AMOS because it isn't another desktop printer dressed up for industry. This machine has a very different pedigree. It was developed around the idea that additive manufacturing needs to work reliably in real operating environments, and that aligns extremely well with the manufacturers we serve.”
Alex Hussain, Co-Founder and CEO of 3DChimera
Born From Navy R&D. Built in America.
AMOS stands for Advanced Manufacturing Operational System. The platform traces its origins to work led by Spencer Koroly at the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific in San Diego.
Chicago Additive collaborated with Koroly and his team through development, testing, and pre-production. In May 2025, the company announced a co-exclusive Navy technology license to support commercialization of the AMOS platform.
The printer's development history includes testing well outside a traditional additive manufacturing lab. In one U.S. Navy demonstration, an AMOS system operated aboard a Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey during ground and flight operations.
Today, Chicago Additive manufactures AMOS in DeMotte, Indiana, bringing technology developed for demanding military applications into commercial manufacturing environments.
Industrial 3D Printing for the Factory Floor
AMOS gives manufacturers a platform for producing functional parts and tooling close to the point of use. Potential applications include:
- Manufacturing fixtures and assembly aids
- Custom workholding and soft jaws
- Inspection and positioning tools
- Machine accessories and replacement components
- Functional prototypes
- Low-volume production parts
- Field and point-of-use manufacturing
3DChimera approaches additive manufacturing as part of the complete production workflow. The goal is to identify where 3D printing can save time, reduce cost, or solve an operational problem, while recognizing where traditional manufacturing remains the right choice.
“We solve manufacturing problems, not prompts. Our job is not simply to sell somebody a printer. It's to understand what they manufacture, where they are losing time or money, and whether additive manufacturing can actually improve that process.”
